The Legend of the Lamplighter

In our Sphere, according to Mulgan, there is a very ancient creature that he calls a Lamplighter.
Lamplighter used to be a teamster who transported prisoners across a frozen lake. But the ice could not withstand the load and cracked, engulfing the unfortunate, and the driver managed to survive. His soul could not bear the burden of guilt, and he vowed to collect all those he had lost.
Now he wanders the worlds. Over the millennia of wandering, he turned from a man into a creepy creature carrying lanterns. Each of them is a lost soul, which he "saved" from oblivion. And they shine, but not with the light of bliss and joy, but with the light of agony and despair. After all, souls are locked in narrow cells of lanterns and forced to burn forever, illuminating the way to their jailer.
Mulgan says that if you get lost in the woods and see the light of several lights in the distance, it's better not to approach. "Otherwise you will become like him, heh-heh-heh," and after these words the creature pulls out a lantern with a face twisted with horror inside.
