On the wings of the storm

The last spirit that created Khemsaru was Sarich. It was forged from the souls of ordinary people who died in the fratricidal war.
Sarich could control nature itself. His wide wings could disperse storms, direct rains to the fields, change riverbeds. Thanks to him, the inhabitants of Men-Nefer did not know hunger.
But there was one flaw in Sarih — unlike other spirits, he was self-willed. He obeyed Pharaoh, but only in the beginning. The Spirit saw what methods Khemsaru was using to expand the empire, and he didn't like it. The last straw was the destruction of the priests of Vet-Narib, after which Sarich left.
The spirit knew that Khemsaru could disembody him, so he patiently waited for the death of the creator. When this happened, Sarich returned. With his wings, he did not allow a single gust of cool wind to blow on the territory of the empire, not a single drop to spill on the possessions of his dead creator. Gradually, the rivers dried up, fields and forests turned into deserts.
And now, when only sand remains from the empire, sometimes it seems as if huge wings are flashing in a sultry haze.…
