The Tale of the Whisper

In the very south of the Sphere, where the hot deserts end, lies the land of the Kemmes people. The local people honor the departed and believe that after death souls go to the world of the dead, to the abode of eternal rest.
The way there is indicated by a Whisper — a disembodied spirit consisting of mist and shadow. For the eyes of the deceased, he appears in the form of a huge shaggy monster with many bottomless eyes, so that the soul does not doubt the greatness of the moment.
But even strict rules have exceptions. It is said that one day Whisper met a girl in the world of the living. Her heart was bursting with longing for her dead brother, and life itself almost left her body, giving her the ability to see the invisible. Touched by her grief, Whisper broke the ancient covenant and agreed to take her to her brother.
He took her to a serene lake in the heart of the kingdom of the dead, where the young man was sitting. Before taking a step forward, the monster said, "Remember: one sound of your living voice will break the silence of this world. Be quiet."
She nodded. But when she saw her brother, she forgot about the ban. She screamed his name. And the silence exploded. The cry of a living person, like a thunderclap on a windless day, disturbed the peace of the dead. The rebellious spirits, blinded by rage, dragged the girl into the dead abyss of their world. And Whisper could only watch...
Since then, the ghost of the girl wanders among the dead and cannot find solace. And the great guide swore an oath: never again lead those whose heart is still beating. For compassion can turn into eternal damnation.
